Classes

For All Levels

Kickboxing

In this class we will focus on the striking aspects of MMA. punches, kicks, knees, and elbows as well as use of the clench, and even some sweeps, trips and dumps to take our opponents down.

New students will not be expected nor encouraged to spar without experience. beginners will continue to practice basics during the sparring portion of class.

Uniform: Fight shorts with compression base layer and/or Leggings or Spats, compression top or form fitting T-Shirt. Ladies please note that low cut shirts will eventually lead to a wardrobe malfunction and so we highly recommend keeping that in mind when choosing an outfit.

Mouthguard Required.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (in the Gi)

BJJ uses leverage from the ground, and grips from both the opponent's body and their clothing to control, and submit them. In this class we will learn escapes, pins, takedowns, sweeps, chokes, and various joint locks.

Beginners will not be expected nor encouraged to "Roll" (spar without the use of strikes but only grappling or wrestling with submissions) but can be put into live positional drills with other beginners during this period of class, or can politely ask to roll with a coach if they are curious about their standing as an untrained person.

Uniform: beginners are welcome to come in general workout clothing, however within two weeks of sign up, you must obtain a "Gi" which is a thick kimono-like uniform which we use to control, drag, pull, and even choke our opponents by. Underneath your gi, you should wear a base layer of form fitting undergarments or a t-shirt.

NoGi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

NoGi BJJ was adapted from traditional Jiu-Jitsu to prepare MMA fighters for the shorter rounds, and slippery nature of Cage Fighting. in the Gi, the fabric is used to hold opponents tightly, and slow them down. positional battles can sometimes be slow and methodical, however in NoGi, we do not grab hold of the uniform and thus each fighter becomes more mobile and harder to keep still. it also removes the possibility of many different chokes and throws that rely on a grip on a uniform. NoGi is typically faster paced, than traditional jiu-jitsu, however many world champion fighters love training in the Gi as well as NoGi as both have great benefits for the cage and for a rounding of ones style of grappling.

Uniform: compression top or form fitting T-Shirt, that covers the neck and shoulders. Gym Shorts with a compression base layer or leggings/spats. Gi Pants can also be worn to NoGi practice.

Open Sparring/ Open Mat

Not a structured class. These sessions are set aside for athletes to meet and practice whatever skills they would like; Particularly for live Sparring rounds in Open Sparring or live Grappling rounds in Open Mat. This class is designed for competitive athletes, and requires some experience before attending.

Uniform for Open Sparring:

Shorts/spats, form fitting top or t-shirt.

Mouthguard Required.

Uniform for Open Mat:

Either a Gi (Kimono) or NoGi attire;

(Shorts/spats, form fitting top or t-shirt.

Mouthguard Recommended.

Striking Fundamentals

This Class is for Beginners to help get into shape while learning basic principles of striking such as how to throw certain punches and kicks, as well as basic stance, footwork, and other important building blocks.

Tiny Ninjas

Classes for small children to help them develop behavior, coordination, balance, mobility, and to be slowly and safely introduced into martial arts techniques. Students practice movements and techniques with partners, and have 1on1 games that mimic skills used in actual fighting.

Combat Jiu-Jitsu and MMA coming Soon

Combat Jiujitsu is a new form of jiujitsu competition that allows open palm strikes to grounded opponents. a great way for students to practice for an MMA crossover, and also a great way for older athletes to safely practice striking and ground and pound tactics.

MMA- as our academy is a grappling heavy team we have set aside specific classes just for striking to offer opportunities for a more rounded training regimen for our athletes. The MMA class we envision will cover a curricula focused on mixing in the skills and strategies of various forms of art to be best applied to the cage. as we already cover pure grappling and pure striking principles we will implement a lot of cage work, blending combinations into takedowns, ground and pound offense and defense, etc.
